​Public Relations and Corporate Communications Manager

Economic Development Winnipeg Inc. (EDW) is seeking a permanent, full-time Corporate Communications Manager. The Corporate Communications Manager is responsible for leading and executing the corporate media relations and communications program. The manager is the primary contact for corporate media enquiries and responsible for writing, editing and proofing communications as well as leading the corporate media relations program for all three divisions of Economic Development Winnipeg Inc., including Tourism Winnipeg, Economic Development Winnipeg (Market Intelligence and Marketing and Branding) and YES! Winnipeg. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the successful candidate will:


  • Research and write EDW publications, press releases, speeches, newsletters, articles, stories, and web content
  • Manage and execute the annual report, quarterly board reports and community reports
  • Compile and distribute a roundup of daily news to staff and external stakeholders every morning
  • Edit all corporate communication materials
  • Assist in the development and execution of the corporate social media strategy
  • Manage and write content for the EDW blogs
  • Serve as the primary contact for corporate media inquiries and respond to them in a timely manner
  • Serve as the on-site media relations person at industry events
  • Manage and navigate media outreach
  • Provide briefs to senior management
  • Maintain a current database of local journalists
  • Develop destination story ideas and press stories on Winnipeg and the city’s economic sectors
  • Assist business development managers with their in-market communication requirements
  • Monitor and record media logistics for the monthly metrics
  • Other duties as required

Knowledge and skills:

  • Three to five years public relations and corporate communications experience
  • Proven capability in media relations and public relations 
  • Experience acting as a company spokesperson and skilled in broadcast and print interviews 
  • A proven track record of planning communication strategies designed to engage a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated success integrating digital and social communications mediums into corporate communications planning 
  • Positive interpersonal and relationship-building skills 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage several concurrent projects and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and independently
  • Exceptional oral, written and editing skills
  • Bilingual (French/English) communication skills an asset


  • University degree in Communications or Journalism
  • Five years of progressive experience working as a corporate communications professional
  • Three years’ experience in managing media relations
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
