Corporate Creative Communications Manager

EDW is seeking a strong, creative writer who will be responsible for a variety of business writing including speeches, business reports, documents, annual reports, website and blogs as well as editing corporate communication materials, proofreading and acting as the media liaison for Economic Development Winnipeg, Inc. The Corporate Creative Communications Manager is also responsible for leading the corporate communications program and creating economic stories that highlight the Winnipeg advantage in order to grow Winnipeg’s economy. The Manager will understand Winnipeg’s economic strengths and is the EDW voice in communicating these strengths locally, provincially, nationally and internationally.   

RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS

·       Assist in the development and execution of the corporate communications strategy

·       Provide the copy writing and editing of the corporate publications, press releases, reports, speeches, articles, blogs, website and communication materials

·       Increase external media coverage of Winnipeg’s economic landscape by identifying and producing stories that promote the Winnipeg advantage

·       Manage the corporate media enquiries and track earned media

DUTIES

·       Write EDW publications, press releases, reports, speeches, articles, blogs, website and communication materials

·       Manage and write the annual report, quarterly board and community reports

·       Compile and distribute a roundup of daily news to staff and stakeholders each morning

·       Develop and write destination and press stories on Winnipeg’s economic sectors

·       Develop and write content for the EDW blogs and social media channels highlighting the Winnipeg advantage

·       Edit all corporate communication materials

·       Maintain a current database of local journalists in order to manage and navigate media outreach

·       Serve as the primary contact for corporate media inquiries and respond in a timely manner

·       Provide briefs to senior management

·       Serve as the on-site media relations person at industry events

·       Manage and track the monthly communications key performance indicators

·       Work responsibly in accordance with the Corporation’s Policy Playbook

·       Other duties as required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

·       Excellent copy writing skills and the ability to proactively promote and tell the Winnipeg Story

·       Three to five years corporate communications writing experience

·       Proven capability in media relations and public relations

·       Experience acting as a company spokesperson and skilled in broadcast and print interviews

·       A proven track record of planning communication strategies designed to engage a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders

·       Demonstrated success integrating digital and social communications mediums into corporate communications planning

·       Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage several concurrent projects and meet tight deadlines

·       Positive interpersonal and relationship-building skills

·       Ability to work well in a team environment and independently

·       Second language considered an asset

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

·       University degree in Communications or Journalism

·       Five years of experience as a corporate communications manager

·       Three years of experience in managing media relations

·       An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
