Position Summary:

The Market Analyst position is pivotal in achieving our vision to become experts on Winnipeg. Working with the MI team, the Market Analyst will track and analyze industry trends, oversee departmental projects, and interpret data and market intelligence to develop Winnipeg’s business development value proposition. This position is suited to a highly productive individual who enjoys dealing with complex problems, challenging deadlines and the desire to become an expert on Winnipeg. 

Responsibilities/Functions:

• Understand recent market trends and market research methodology  

• Analyze primary as well as secondary market research on key industry sectors 

• Use a variety of systems and platforms, carry out research on markets, trends and segments of Winnipeg’s economy 

• Collect data from various external and internal sources and convert this data into insights that support EDW’s mandate 

• Lead resources on projects and provide guidance and direction to team members including develop project plans, monitor and manage the plan to ensure deadlines are met and project objective is achieve

• Present recommendations and insights to internal teams and senior leaders in the organization 

• Support business expansion, attraction and retention projects by interpreting and contextualizing data 

• Manage website market intelligence content 

• Develop and modify customized sales stories, compile and then deliver them to the business development, sales and marketing teams

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Able to work well in a team environment  

• Solid communication skills, both verbal and written, group presentation experience an asset 

• Sound analytical and problem-solving skills 

• Knowledge of research methods (qualitative or quantitative) 

• Experience in applying skills using Word, Excel, Access and visualization software 

• Advanced interpersonal and organizational skills  

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Office 365, Sharepoint and database tools

• Commitment to personal professional development

Education/Experience: 

• Post-secondary diploma or degree in Economic Development, Business Administration, Economics or Commerce. Other degrees that demonstrate focus on critical thinking are also valuable. 

• 3-5 years of experience in private or public economic development or business development experience  

• Experience in market research, analysis and sales support 

• Experience in project management 

• An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
