Take a Staycation: Celebrate Winnipeg's Uniqueness

June 7, 2010: Winnipeg, MB – Ever wonder why the Manitoba Legislative building is adorned with mythical creatures? Want to take a trip back to the Exchange District during the Roaring Twenties? Or maybe you would prefer to venture on a petite French getaway in Old Saint Boniface.

Well why wait any longer. Tourism Winnipeg is inviting you to celebrate our city’s unique attractions, events and festivals during Tourism Week in Canada, June 7-13.

“This is a great opportunity to get off the couch and take a vacation without the hassle. Look at your city through a visitor’s eyes as there is a lot of things to do right in our backyard,” says Tourism Winnipeg Vice President, Chantal Sturk-Nadeau. “A little planning is all it takes to have lots of fun in an affordable way for a much needed vacation. Become a tourist in your own city and recover why Winnipeg is Canada’s best kept secret!”

Tourism week is a celebration that highlights the economic impact and social benefits of Canada’s tourism sector. Here in Winnipeg the Tourism Sector has a significant impact on the local economy, with approximately 2.8 million visitors each year bringing in more than $500 million in direct annual expenditures.
