Economic Development Winnipeg Inc.'s Tourism Winnipeg Division Wins Industry Award for Web-based Marketing Collateral

October 18, 2012: Winnipeg, MB – Tourism Winnipeg, a division of Economic Development Winnipeg Inc. (EDW), was recently honoured with a prestigious award from the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC), one of North America’s leading economic development organizations. EDAC singled out Tourism Winnipeg with a Marketing Canada Award for its dynamic website.

“We are delighted Tourism Winnipeg’s website has been chosen by EDAC as one of Canada’s finest examples of this type of marketing collateral,” said Marina R. James, president and CEO of Economic Development Winnipeg Inc. “This acknowledgment highlights the many distinguishing elements our city offers visitors and residents alike. Accolades like this demonstrate that our organization remains at the forefront of the destination marketing profession as we continue to champion a compelling business model that maximizes tourism in Winnipeg.”

This year marked EDAC’s 44th annual conference, and its popular Marketing Canada Awards component attracted 160 submissions from across Canada. The annual competition presents the chance to exchange and review promotional literature and other marketing material produced by municipalities across the country. The awards program is open to those organizations that promote and market domestic jurisdictions with a view toward improving the economic well-being of Canadians.

“Tourism Winnipeg has worked hard over the past year to enhance our website in consequential ways that engage our ever-growing audience like never before, and we’re thrilled EDAC’s adjudication committee appreciated these efforts by selecting us for this award,” said Chantal Sturk-Nadeau, senior vice president of Tourism Winnipeg. “Efforts in this area are ongoing, but there is little doubt we are striking the right chord with our stakeholders. Given our encouraging results to date, we look forward to augmenting our web-based strategies even more in the months ahead.”

Tourism Winnipeg’s website—and its related social media endeavours—received heightened attention from participating staff during the preceding year. Evidence of the website’s increasing popularity as a marketing tool is convincing: in 2011, page views averaged 100,000 monthly; however, 2012 saw a pronounced spike to over 250,000 page views per month.
