Economic Development Winnipeg and Tourism Winnipeg Launch Major Collaborative Initiative - The Loop

June 14, 2013: Winnipeg, MB – Economic Development Winnipeg and Tourism Winnipeg are pleased to announce the launch of a major collaborative initiative called The Loop. The Loop is an approximate 9.5 kilometre, 3.5 hour, self-guided circuit that gives walkers an opportunity to explore urban Winnipeg’s historic, cultural, architectural, and modern day gems.

“We are thrilled to launch The Loop – a walk that provides visitors and residents the opportunity to discover Winnipeg’s vibrant urban areas,” said Marina James, President and CEO of Economic Development Winnipeg. “Investing in your city’s distinct assets and improving walkability are the first steps in creating a higher quality of life and attracting new residents and jobs. We are proud to have contributed to a healthier, more walkable city by leading this major collaborative effort with other key stakeholders.”

“The Loop is a fantastic new walking circuit that will enhance the type of experience a visitor has in Winnipeg,” said Chantal Sturk-Nadeau, Senior Vice President of Tourism Winnipeg. “The Loop also contributes to sustainable tourism by enhancing and preserving our natural and cultural heritage and providing a complimentary product to our local tourism operators.”

“We were pleased to be a part of the development of The Loop,” said Michelle Gervais, Director of Tourisme Riel. “The power of a collective approach enabled us to create a signature experience for visitors and residents that inevitably moves our city forward. We are pleased that The Loop combines the historically rich and diverse areas in downtown Winnipeg with St. Boniface’s unique stops.”

The Loop was made possible through efforts of the following key stakeholders: Downtown Biz, Exchange Biz, Rivers West, The Forks North Portage Partnership, Tourisme Riel, and Travel Manitoba.
