Winnipeg makes Site Selection Magazine’s, Canada’s Best Locations list
September 9, 2020
WINNIPEG, MB – Economic Development Winnipeg (EDW) is excited to once again be chosen by Site Selection Magazine as one of Canada’s best locations to invest. For the third year in a row, Winnipeg makes the Top 20 list based on corporate facility investment and related job creation activity analyzed on a cumulative and per-capita basis.
“We know Winnipeg offers great advantages for investors but also for companies looking to attract new talent: our arts, culture and culinary scenes stand out for people looking for an affordable but high quality of life. It has been a difficult year for many, but our community is poised to grow,” says Dayna Spiring, CEO & President of Economic Development Winnipeg.
EDW continues to work with its business and tourism stakeholders, the city and province to help local companies shift during this difficult economic time, but also expand and grow in our city. Our business development team, YES! Winnipeg, is removing barriers to growth and connecting potential new investors with its Foreign Direct Investment team.
Right before the pandemic hit in March, 11 Global Affairs Canada (GAC) officers from seven different countries including Germany, Mexico and the United States visited our city to explore opportunities in our aerospace, creative, ICT, agricultural and manufacturing industries and better understand our closely connected business community.
“What we heard from all of them was a lot of excitement about what this city can offer investors. They were impressed by our tax incentives, our growing ICT sector, manufacturing, transportation and distribution options and proximity to valuable markets,” says Spiring.
“They also appreciated the Team Manitoba approach that showed a level of collaboration between our business community, levels of government, EDW and regional economic development agencies they hadn’t seen elsewhere in Canada. It’s just one more reason Winnipeg’s business environment is ripe for investment in 2021,” adds Spiring.
