Why Winnipeg is One of Canada’s Best Winter Cities

In a city that cheekily dubs itself “Winterpeg, Manisnowba,” arctic gusts, thick ice and piles of the white stuff are constants. Rather than suffer, Winnipeggers have decided not just to embrace their winter, but to rock it.

Lindsay Somers, a lifestyle health coach, lives steps from the Red River Mutual Trail, one of the world’s longest skating trails. “I love to skate the river with my husband and pals. We can hop off at The Forks National Historic Site, zip in for a beer at The Common or grab a bite in cozy SMITH lounge.”

If you visit The Forks, try Crokicurl, a mash-up of the board game Crokinole and curling. Or, for a different form of physical fun, get an outdoor yoga groove going at FortWhyte Alive’s Fire & Ice Yoga Festival, Feb. 3, 2018.
