For the seventh year in a row, Winnipeg, MB, has once again been selected by Site Selection Magazine as one of Canada's best locations to invest.
The publication recognized Economic Development Winnipeg (EDW) for spearheading the city's economic growth. Winnipeg made the list, which is based on capital investment and related job creation, assessed on both a cumulative and per-capita basis.
"With projects from the likes of Genvion and Winpak; international outreach and incoming foreign direct investment; and programs that blend the region's events, tourism and business attraction efforts, the Economic Development Winnipeg team is hitting all the right notes," said Adam Bruns, editor in chief of Site Selection Magazine
Using a client-centric approach, EDW continues to help businesses navigate growth barriers and forge connections with potential investors. These efforts helped Winnipeg secure significant economic contributions, including $467.6 million in capital investment and the creation of 527 new jobs between June 1, 2023 and May 31, 2024.
"This latest recognition from Site Selection Magazine validates our ongoing efforts and vision at EDW—to transform Winnipeg into a hub not only for business and investment but also as a vibrant community where everyone can thrive," stated Ryan Kuffner, CEO & President of Economic Development Winnipeg. "Our unique model, combining economic development and tourism under one roof, gives us a distinct advantage, allowing us to attract investment, tourism and talent to our local economy. This recognition highlights Winnipeg's ability to excel in a competitive global landscape, ensuring sustainable prosperity for both the city and Manitoba."
EDW's strategic initiatives are demonstrated through its collaboration with business and tourism stakeholders to fuel growth. Leveraging its unique model, EDW continues to impact the economy through its tourism efforts as well, including hosting major events such as the International Indigenous Tourism Conference and the World Police & Fire Games, which had an overall economic impact of $70 million on the local economy.
