Several Winnipeg companies have grown at an astounding pace over the past five years, and that growth is being noticed on the national stage.
Business and current affairs media brands Canadian Business and Maclean’s released the annual Growth 500 list of Canada’s Fastest-Growing Companies, ranked on five-year revenue growth. A vast array of industries, regions and size, they have all demonstrated aggressive – often exponential – revenue growth.
“The companies on the 2019 Growth 500 are truly remarkable. Demonstrating foresight, innovation and smart management, their stories serve as a primer for how to build a successful entrepreneurial business today,” said Beth Fraser, Growth 500 program manager. “As we celebrate over 30 years of the Canada’s Fastest-Growing Companies program, it’s encouraging to see that entrepreneurship is healthier than ever in this country.”
These local companies cracked the Growth 500 – considered Canada’s most respectable and influential ranking of entrepreneurial achievement:
12. Bold Commerce
193. Tiber River
196. Neovation Learning Solutions
280. People Corporation
342. Manitobah Mukluks
352. BCV Asset Management Inc.
447. Label Source
453. Value Partners Investments
457. Clear Concepts
472. Bison Fire Protection Inc.
Bold Commerce says it’s beyond thrilled to rank 12th out of 500 – a title that wouldn’t be possible without the support of its amazing merchants, staff and the community. The article cites a whopping 6,878 per cent growth over five years, 2018 revenue between $10-20 million and 282 full-time equivalent employees in 2018.
Another local rising star to watch: Avant Insurance Brokers ranked 34th on the publication's 2019 Startup 50 list of the most brash, bold, bright upstarts country has to offer. Avant cites 519 per cent five-year growth and $1-2 million revenue in 2018.
“This is a huge testament to our commitment to our clients and the hard work of our staff to grow our business,” said Cole Leitch, CEO of Avant Insurance Brokers. “This shows that a great insurance brokerage, committed to our clients is able to create a market in Western Canada.”
Eleven local companies on the national top-growth list is a solid showing – and Bold’s 12th place ranking is one of the highest ever for a Manitoba company.
“We’re proud to see Winnipeg companies are being recognized among the fastest growing in the country,” said Dayna Spiring, President & CEO of Economic Development Winnipeg. “Our city is home to many other thriving businesses and successful start-ups who all contribute to Winnipeg’s economic growth. National recognition by Canadian Business helps increase our city’s reputation as a great place do to business.”
