Amazon is opening two delivery stations and that means more growth for Winnipeg. The online retailer chose our city for a few reasons.

Amazon’s delivery stations power the last mile of its order process and help speed up deliveries for customers. Packages are transported to delivery stations via trailer trucks from Amazon fulfillment and sortation centers. Packages are then sorted, packed and loaded into delivery vehicles and shipped to homes in our communities.
“We are excited to continue our growth in Canada with our first Manitoba delivery stations in Winnipeg. These new delivery stations will allow us to provide fast and efficient delivery for customers and provide hundreds of job opportunities for the talented local workforce,” says Tushar Kumar, Regional Director, Last-mile Logistics Operations for Amazon Canada.

There will be two delivery stations which include a 113,000 sq. ft. building located at 11 Plymouth Street in the Inkster Industrial Park and a 121,000 sq. ft. building at 1001 Regent Avenue West, which used to be the former Coldstream building.
The Plymouth location is just minutes from Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport, which runs 24/7.
“These two delivery stations are great news for our airport’s growth in cargo. It means more jobs coming to our city and reinforces our central location advantage," added Spiring.
Amazon Canada expects to start hiring for hundreds of full-time and part-time jobs with an average hourly wage of at least $16.00 and comprehensive benefits above those of standard entry-level jobs.
“Permanent full-time, employees at Amazon receive competitive hourly wages, and a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare, and generous maternity and parental leave benefits. Seasonal and part-time opportunities are great for parents seeking flexibility in schedule, college students, those seeking second jobs and retirees,” says Pontes.
Three types of jobs are available in delivery stations:
1. Sortation–These employees are directly employed by Amazon. They help with sorting packages inside the delivery station.
2. Managers–Managers are employed by Amazon for managing the sortation process and by Delivery Service Partners (DSP) owners for managing the delivery process.
3. Delivery Service Partners (DSP)–The DSP program helps entrepreneurs build their own businesses delivering Amazon packages in their local communities. DSPs get delivery volume from Amazon, access to the company’s sophisticated delivery technology and discounts on a suite of assets and services including discounted vehicle leases and comprehensive insurance to keep startup costs low.
When it comes to educational opportunities, Amazon Canada also offers a program to help workers develop skills and/or certifications to help them find a job beyond Amazon.
After you've been employed by Amazon for one continuous year, the Amazon Career Choice Program will pre-pay 95 per cent of tuition and fees for employees to earn certificates and associate degrees in high-wage, in-demand occupations such as nursing, web and software development, truck driving, mechanics and other fields. It will also reimburse 95 per cent of the cost of all required textbooks. The program will pay up to $3,000 per year in tuition, textbooks and associated fees for up to four years.
