Economic Development Winnipeg names new Vice President

Amanda Macdonald named Economic Development Winnipeg’s Vice President Business Development & Market Intelligence and leader of EDW’s YES! Winnipeg Initiative

Winnipeg – Treaty 1 – Economic Development Winnipeg Inc. (EDW) today announced the appointment of Amanda Macdonald to the position of Vice President of Business Development & Market Intelligence and as leader of EDW's YES! Winnipeg initiative. Macdonald held the role of Director of Business Development for the past two years.

"Amanda has been a tremendous asset to the organization. I am incredibly confident in her abilities, and I look forward to her leadership of EDW's YES! Winnipeg initiative, as Vice President of Business Development and Marketing in this next chapter of our organization’s lifecycle,” said Ryan Kuffner, President and CEO of Economic Development Winnipeg.

EDW rebalanced its executive portfolio this year to better integrate business development and market intelligence. In this new role, Macdonald will lead collaborative work between EDW, Winnipeg’s business community and the public sector, always through the lens of EDW’s client-first approach, selling Winnipeg and Manitoba as a great place to invest and grow a business.

With a background in public and private sectors, encompassing large and small firms in domestic and international environments, Macdonald brings a unique blend of experience to this role. Her progressive leadership style has led to enhanced team performance, new client service streams and increased cross-departmental collaboration within EDW.

“My vision in this role is to enable EDW to gather deeper data-driven insights into Winnipeg’s economy, so we can share a more impactful story about our city for clients and public sector partners,” said Macdonald. “I am always looking for ways to support our clients and boost our city’s competitiveness, so together we can create opportunities for businesses to invest in Winnipeg’s and Manitoba’s economies.”

Macdonald is a dynamic and results-driven professional with a proven track record in business development, market intelligence and business strategy. As EDW’s Director of Business Development, she played a key role in securing a $60 million infrastructure investment for Winnipeg and worked in lockstep with our Foreign Direct Investment and Talent & Workforce Development teams to advance opportunities for new investment. Alongside EDW’s partners, Macdonald has been an advocate for and collaborator in securing new direct flight routes for Winnipeg.

Macdonald has also provided exceptional support to community projects and initiatives to benefit our key economic sectors and city, for example, championing opportunities to showcase Winnipeg as an agribusiness powerhouse through the Agricultural Centre of Excellence and supporting the Downtown Recovery Strategy through her participation in the Building Business committee.

Prior to joining EDW, Macdonald led a diverse team of project managers and business development staff at Manitoba Hydro International, overseeing a $40 million global project portfolio with projects throughout Canada, Latin America, Africa and Asia. She completed her Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2016 at the University of Manitoba with a focus on finance and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the Asper School of Business.
